What is the GAMSAT?

The GAMSAT (Graduate Medical School Admissions Test) is a standardised test, which is being used in the UK as part of the admissions criteria for graduate entry medicine (GEM) programmes, as well as the Dental Surgery degree at Plymouth University, and Master of Science degree at the University of East Anglia. It is designed to assess a candidate's capacity to undertake high-level intellectual studies in a medical or dental course, including critical thinking, written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as time management. First introduced to the UK by St George's Hospital Medical School in 1999, GAMSAT is now required for entry by 11 medical schools in the UK. During the global pandemic, GAMSAT evolved from a longer, pen-and-paper exam to a shorter, computer-based exam. GAMSAT is offered at local UK testing centres twice per year, in March and September, with the next testing window being March 18-22, 2023.
